Welsey is an adventurous and very sweet six-year-old who loves the outdoors, swimming, and snowboarding. He also loves Pokémon, Mario Smash Bros, and Stuffed Animals.
In late October of 2021, Wesley had what seemed to be a cold. After a few days of having a fever, runny nose, and a cough, his parents decided to have him seen by his pediatrician and test him for Covid-19, but the results were negative.
After 12 days of fever, he started to decline so his parents decided to take him to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. Doctors ran several tests.
In just a few hours blood tests revealed Wesley has High-Risk B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and was admitted into their Pediatric ICU.
In less than 24 hours Wesley had a bone marrow biopsy, a lumbar puncture, a PICC line placed, and began chemotherapy.
Wesley’s journey has only just begun. He has had intense weekly chemotherapy and has spent more days in the hospital than at home. Each next phase of treatment will be determined by the results of continued bone marrow biopsies.
Wesley will be adopted as a Sparrow to Gresham High School. Students will work hard to raise money for Wesley through sponsored community service.
