Read Meira's Story

Meira is a sweet and somewhat shy 13-year-old. She considers herself an artist and loves making homemade costumes. She also enjoys “glamping” and snuggling with her dog “Scout.”

On March 3, 2022, Meira was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Meira was flown by emergency to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, where she had a bone marrow biopsy and then immediately began chemotherapy.

Meira has relapsed several times since first being diagnosed. This has caused her to spend most of the year in the hospital receiving intense treatments.

Meira has had shunt surgeries, CAR T-Cell treatments, pic lines, lumber punctures, and many more procedures.

In December 2022, Meira went to Portland to receive treatment and had to be intubated. Her liver started producing a toxic amount of ammonia in her body and it put her in a comatose state. She will continue to stay in Portland until she is stable enough to return home to Medford.

This has been a very hard and scary year for Meira and her family. However, Meira proves every day how strong and brave she is. She continues to have a positive mindset and is determined to win this battle. She is ready to get back to being a fun and energetic teenager.

Meira will be adopted as the Sparrow at St. Mary’s School. St. Mary’s students will work hard to earn money for Meira through sponsored community service.
