Lydia is an outgoing and friendly six-year-old who is caring and compassionate. She loves the colors pink, purple, and unicorns!

nIn late December of 2020, Lydia began having difficulty bearing weight on one of her legs, but doctors couldn’t find anything wrong. For weeks nothing changed. Then she hurt her wrist and suddenly she was unable to use her arm. Once again x-rays ultimately showed no fractures or breaks.

nBy mid-January, Lydia was no longer walking and when she spiked a fever, she was taken to Randall Children’s Hospital for answers. Doctors admitted her and performed several tests. Her parents were devasted to learn she had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

nLydia’s treatments began immediately. Each week doctors assess what they believe is best for her. Her protocol starts with Chemotherapy via a spinal tap and then bone biopsies to determine how to proceed.

nAll these treatments and side effects are scary, but Lydia is trying to be brave. She struggles with being sick, the pain, and weight gain from medications.

nDespite all of this, Lydia is a rock star who loves to laugh, play, and listen to music.

nLydia will be adopted as a Sparrow to Aumsville Elementary School. Students will work hard to not only love and support her but also raise money for Lydia through sponsored community service.
