Meet Elio

Read Elio's Story

Elio is a smart and kind 12-year-old boy who attends Walker Elementary School. His favorite activities are PE and recess.
n
nOn August 22, 2019 Elio was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer called Ewing Sarcoma.
n
nEwing Sarcoma is an aggressive type of cancer that occurs in bones and soft tissue. The cancer creates a painful tumor in these areas.
n
nIn order to fight this cancer, Elio, received chemo through a port. The chemo shrunk the tumor located in his right leg enough to allow doctors to surgically remove the cancerous bone.
n
nAfter the cancerous bone was removed, doctors installed an internal metal prosthesis. As Elio grows into adulthood, he will continue to have surgeries to lengthen the prosthesis.
n
nIn December of 2020, Elio went in for a routine check-up and was given devastating news. The cancer returned and is now located in his lungs.
n
nElio is back in the fight and will continue the process of chemotherapy and many medical treatments.
n
nElio is currently receiving intense chemotherapy and will continue to until he is in remission. In spite of this medical trauma he has experienced, Elio remains kind, determined, and wears a big smile on his face.
n
nElio will be adopted as a Sparrow to Grants Pass High School. GPHS students will have the opportunity to work hard to raise money for Elio’s ongoing treatment through sponsored community service.
