Meet Lando, a sweet 1-year-old little boy. His medical story began before he was born. At 20 weeks pregnant during a routine ultrasound, a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) was discovered.
CHD is a hole in the diaphragm, which is the thin sheet of muscle between the chest and the abdomen. Because of this Lando was delivered by cesarean section.
He was born on November 17, 2022, at a hospital in Portland, OR, and faced immediate medical challenges.
At just two days old, Lando underwent life-saving surgery lasting several hours to repair the hole in his diaphragm.
Lando’s struggle with CDH led to difficulties in breathing and eating. Despite setbacks, he made remarkable progress in eating on his own.
Lando spent weeks in the NICU being monitored. He struggled to gain weight and every ounce he put on was celebrated.
He was diagnosed with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). This is monitored closely to help him eat without pain.
Lando’s future includes check-ups with specialists and ongoing therapies.
Lando will be adopted as a Sparrow to Eugene Christian School. Students will work hard to earn money for Lando through sponsored community service, giving him and his family the support they need to continue fighting this battle.
