Wesley is a 16-year-old with a big heart. He is funny and loves to make others laugh. Once you break through his tough exterior, he is truly loving and generous.
n
nIn September of 2019, when Wesley was playing football in his freshman year of high school, he became unusually tired, and he noticed bruises unrelated to football.
n
nAfter repeated trips to the hospital, when he couldn’t keep food down and his symptoms worsened over the next few months, doctors discovered what was wrong. Wesley was diagnosed with Leukemia.
n
nHis chemo treatments started immediately. However, after three rounds of chemo, it stopped working due to a mutation called FLT3. A new plan was needed.
n
nWesley’s treatment plan now meant 3 rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant, instead of just 6 rounds of chemo with a possible transplant. The transplant was hard on him, so steroids were needed to keep his body going.
n
nThe steroids wreaked havoc on his body also causing ‘bone death’ to his knees. He will most likely need a double knee replacement. Wesley continues to fight despite the journey ahead of him.
n
nWesley will be adopted as a Sparrow to Hillsboro High School. Students will work hard to raise money for Wesley through sponsored community service.
