Read Apollo's Story

Apollo is a sweet little one-year-old boy who loves to cuddle with his parents and play with his dogs.
n
nApollo’s family recently had another baby. During a check-up for his baby sister, the pediatrician voiced concerns about the size of Apollo’s head.
n
nApollo had also been acting scared to roll over and stand up, which is unusual for a toddler.
n
nDoctors ordered an MRI. The MRI revealed that Apollo has a condition called hydrocephalus.
n
nHydrocephalus happens when extra fluid is produced in the brain. This can be very dangerous because it causes pressure, headaches, poor vision, and can affect cognitive abilities. This condition also causes the head to swell.
n
nThe MRI also revealed that Apollo had a cyst in his brain that required surgery. Doctors did a surgery called ETV (endoscopic third ventriculostomy). This surgery should allow the excess fluid in his brain to drain.
n
nDoctors are also hopeful the ETV will also help drain the cyst in his brain. Apollo needs to travel to Portland often to have follow up appointments.
n
nApollo has had some scary medical complications. However, he remains a sweet and loving little boy. He loves meeting new people and he is very curious about the world around him.
n
nApollo will be adopted as a Sparrow to Talent Elementary School. Talent Elementary Students will work hard to raise money for Apollo through sponsored community service.
