Read Nation's Story

Nation is a little boy who was born with a rare genetic disability called KIAA-2022. He also has a condition called cerebral palsy and is on the autism spectrum.
n
nIn the simplest of terms, KIAA-2022 combined with cerebral palsy and autism, means that Nation suffers with various types of seizures, aspiration issues, low muscle tone, and flexibility and sensory issues. He is also non-verbal.
n
nNation has been unable to eat on his own, so he has had g-tubes and feeding tubes at various times during his life. However, most recently, he has been receiving occupational and physical therapy which has helped improve his eating skills.
n
nIn the future, Nation will require the support of a walker, wheelchair, and specialized car seat. The low muscle tone in his legs prevent him from putting weight on his legs, therefore making it challenging to walk on his own.
n
nNation has had a very medically challenging start in life. However, due to people like his family and the ‘Little Rascals’ day care facility he has overcome many obstacles.
n
nNation is a very happy little boy. He is always smiling and is full of joy, determination, and courage.
n
nNation will be adopted as a Sparrow to South Medford High School. SMHS Students will work hard to raise money for Nation through sponsored community service.
