Read Ellie's Story

Ellie is a happy and strong-willed little two-and-a-half-year-old who loves all things scary and weird, just like her big brother. She loves all things Halloween, sea creatures, earthworms and bugs!
n
nIn late August of 2020, her parents noticed Ellie’s balance was off and she was limping. Concerned she had a bone fracture, doctors performed x-rays. When no fractures were found an MRI was done.
n
nDoctors discovered Ellie had a large tumor on the left side of her brain that affected her movements on the right side of her body. She was admitted to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and two days later she had brain surgery.
n
nDoctors were able to remove the tumor and were certain it was not cancer, but 14 days later tests revealed it was an aggressive type of cancer called Anaplastic Ependymoma.
n
nOn October 14, Ellie was sent to Seattle Children’s Hospital to receive months of Proton Beam treatment along with chemotherapy which will continue when she returns home at Doernbecher’s.
n
nEllie is brave and has endured so much in her young life. She is a fighter and continues to be an inspiration to those around her as she fights this battle.
n
nEllie will be adopted as a Sparrow to Barlow High School. Students will work hard to not only love and support her but also raise money for Ellie through sponsored community service for medical and daily expenses.
