Vivianna's Story:Sweet Vivianna, or “Vivy,” as family and friends know her, is a 4-year-old little girl who loves princesses, dressing up, and playing with makeup. According to her mother, Vivy is a very strong and resilient child. This past year, these two character traits have taken center stage in Vivy’s life because of cancer.
Vivy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 7th, 2015, after several weeks of being sick without getting better. Upon diagnosis, Vivy was admitted to the hospital for nine days. During this time, she was sedated and endured several tests, blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, and chemotherapy.
In May of 2015, Vivy had surgery to install a port in her chest to make her ongoing chemotherapy treatment easier. Since diagnosis, Vivy has endured six months of treatment, which has required her to be a Doernbecher Children’s Hospital several times per week. It has also caused her to lose her hair twice. Vivy now receives chemo at home as well. She has a hard time taking her required medications by mouth, so they are received through a NG tube through her nose.
Vivy has two years of treatment left. Although it has been rough at times, Vivy’s strength and resiliency, in the midst of hardship, are an inspiration to all who know her.
Vivy will be adopted as a Sparrow to Glencoe High School, in Hillsboro. Students at Glencoe will work hard to make a difference in Vivy’s life through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
