Tricia is an active 7-year-old girly girl that has endured a tough journey. Even before she was born, doctors diagnosed her with tetralogy of fallot, which is a rare condition caused by a combination of four heart defects that are present at birth. She was born blue, and then stabilized by doctors as they opened and widened the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery.
At 4 months old, Tricia traveled to Doernbecher to have surgery on her heart. The length of their stay was over 80 days!
Unfortunately, that was not the end for Tricia. After a blood test, Tricia was diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome, which is A disorder caused by a defect in chromosome 22.
DiGeorge Syndrome caused multiple conditions to spring up for Tricia. She was having issues with eating, so she had a feeding tube placed in her stomach and was there until she was 3 years old. Tricia’s muscle tone is very low, so she needed physical therapy to help her to walk and talk.
Today, Tricia still struggles with low muscle tone that causes bladder complications and effects her fine motor skills. She receives physical and occupational therapy at school to help her develop and get stronger.
Although Tricia has had a difficult journey so far, she keeps persevering! She loves Frozen and dress up. When Tricia grows up, she wants to be a mom.
Tricia will be adopted as a Sparrow to Bear Creek Elementary School in Bend. Students will work hard to raise money for Tricia and her family through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
