Ryder's Story:When you meet Ryder, you think he is just the typical 5 ½-year-old boy. But Ryder has Eosinophilic Esophagitis. It’s an allergic condition that happens in the esophagus. The esophagus becomes inflamed and does not contract properly.
Ryder has trouble eating. He can’t eat the foods that other kids eat. He gets his nutrition through a feeding tube. He gets an all-night feed thru the night. And one during snack time during the day.
Ryder still eats blended or pureed food. He is working towards eating regular food but still can’t swallow any food he chews.
His prognosis is unknown because his parents don’t know if he will ever be able to go without a feeding tube.
Ryder also has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in 2019 at 3 years old.
Due to his CP, he has low muscle tone, and learning to walk was delayed for him. He gets physical therapy during the week at school. During the summer he gets PT and OT once a week.
For now, Ryder’s treatment plan is to continue physical therapy and occupational therapy.
Ryder is very kind and caring. He is also a smart little boy. He has been more outgoing this year in school.
Ryder loves his puppy, Ozzie. He enjoys watching Paw Patrol and likes any Paw Patrol toys. He also loves cars and playing outside.
Ryder will be adopted as a Sparrow to Summit High School and Three Rivers School. Students will have the opportunity to work hard to raise money for Ryder’s ongoing treatment through sponsored community service.
