Kyler's Story:
Kyler is a happy, smiling 15 month old and a very sick little boy. He was born at 36 weeks by emergency c-section. His heart had stopped. Transported by Airlink to Bend, Kyler spent the first 6 days of his life in the NICU. Then, everything looked fine and he was able to go home. But, his parents Jeremy and Vanessa, began to wonder if something was wrong. Kyler had trouble sleeping. In a 24 hour period, he never slept more then 3 hours. At first, the doctors didn't think anything of it. But, at 6 months old, they decided to take a closer look. Kyler was sent home with an oxygen monitor. The monitor revealed that his levels were not good and they were sent to the hospital. There he was admitted for RSV and kept for 8 days. With his virus cleared up, his oxygen levels were still not improving. He was sent home again, this time on oxygen. His parents then took him to have a sleep study done. The doctors immediately referred the family to Doernbechers in Portland. They completed their own sleep study and sent Kyler for further tests. He has been through 4 more sleep studies and numerous other tests. At this time, doctors still don't have a diagnosis for little Kyler. His case is being reviewed by physicians at three other hospitals across the country in hopes of finding the cause and a cure for his illness. Right now, Kyler is tested at home every month to see how he is doing. He continues to decline and his oxygen levels are going down. Oxygen machines are no longer enough and Kyler has been placed on a Bi-Pap machine to help him get the oxygen he needs. If that fails, doctors may eventually have to do a tracheotomy. Kyler enjoys the company of his parents and his two older brothers, Koby and Kasen. And he especially enjoys the time he gets to spend playing with his favorite toys, cars and trucks of any shape and size. Sparrow Cash raised for this family will help to pay for Kyler's mounting medical bills and travel costs.
