Kim's Story:Kimberly, or “Kim,” is a sweet 16-month-old little girl who is always smiling and cheerful.
Kim has a condition called Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome.
This condition is extremely rare and causes her kidneys and other organs to shut down.
In 2020, doctors placed Kim in an induced coma for 5 days and administered several blood transfusions. She was also placed on dialysis for 23 days.
In February 2021, Kim got very sick again and her organs once again started shutting down. She was hospitalized for many more weeks.
A recent MRI showed damage to her brain. She is still too young for doctors to make a diagnosis, but once she is old enough doctors will determine what long-term effect this had on her brain.
Despite all the medical challenges and a very scary first year and a half, Kim remains a happy and sweet baby. She is always smiling.
Kim will be adopted as a Sparrow to Hanby Middle School. Hanby Students will work hard to raise money for Kim through sponsored community service.
