Once you hear 6-year-old Jonathan’s contagious laugh, it’s easy to forget that this sweet and energetic boy has a life-threatening medical condition. Jonathan has stage five chronic kidney disease and is on the transplant list, with probable surgery happening some time within the next year.
Doctors discovered severe problems with Jonathan’s kidneys when his mother was just six month’s pregnant. Once he was born, Jonathan spent his first four months in the NICU and since that time, has endured five surgeries.
Because Jonathan’s only working kidney is functioning at only 10%, he receives dialysis every night for approximately 10 hours. He also must take seven different medications on a daily basis. Jonathan must travel to Portland at least once a month for routine checkups.
In spite of all of this, Jonathan is full of life and love. He loves Spider-Man and all kinds of sports, with soccer and football being his favorites.
Jonathan will be adopted as a Sparrow to Roosevelt Elementary School in Medford, the very school that he attends. Students will work hard to raise money for Jonathan through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
