Jake was developing just like any child should. At 18 months he began speaking and saying all the words most toddlers say. But over the course of the next few months, his parents noticed that he was saying less and less and was no longer using the words he used to say. After several trips to various doctors, he was diagnosed with a speech delay.
In the meantime, the family moved to Bend. Jake’s mom began taking him to some classes so that he could spend time around other children. The teacher noticed some issues that Jake was having and recommended he be taken for an evaluation. Jake, then 3 years-old, was officially diagnosed with Autism.
Jake began a program for young people with Autism. This past fall, Jake began kindergarten at Bear Creek Elementary and is really excelling there. He is still non-verbal and must communicate by showing you what he wants, some simple signing, or by using his iPad. Jake has a severe form of Autism, and needs constant supervision and care. He is very unaware of his own safety, and he wanders. He must not be left alone for any amount time.
Jake is a sweet little boy who loves to give hugs and spend time with his two younger brothers, James and William. He loves to spend time outdoors and playing on anything that moves. His favorite is the new swing that is indoors in his bedroom.
Sparrow Cash raised for Jake will help pay for continued speech therapy, a new iPad, and a stroller so that the family can go on outings and keep him safe.
