Jack's Story:
Before Jack was born, doctors discovered a problem. An ultrasound photo showed that there was fluid in his abdomen. Though many tests were done, the doctors found nothing conclusive. Jack’s mom was flown to Portland for his birth, 9 weeks early. Jack spent 6 weeks in the NICU at Legacy Emmanuel. Tests found that he had a cyst on the right side of his head but, again, doctors weren’t sure what would happen.

Less than 2% of babies with Jack's prenatal diagnosis survive. He really is a miracle!

Jack had to return to Portland every 4 months for further testing. At 7 months old, Jack was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. He had difficulty with his core muscles making it difficult to hold his head up, as well as to sit and crawl.

After his diagnosis, Jack began physical therapy as an early intervention to help him strengthen his legs and core muscles. When Jack was in 1st grade he had a major surgery so he would have less pain as he grew. Jack has continued with many forms of physical therapy his entire life. He has worked hard at improving his core muscles and he just uses his walker to get around.

Now at 12 years old, Jack really enjoys training with Specialty Athletic Training at Boss Sports Performance. He also joined the Portland Jr. Wheel Blazers basketball team and loves it! He plays in all the tournaments with them and would someday love to play professional wheelchair basketball.

Jack is an inspiration and a true athlete. He loves to ski through Oregon Adaptive Sports. He really does adapt to any situation and never lets anything hold him back. He loves adventure! 4-wheeling is a new fun activity that he enjoys. He also likes hanging out with his friends, playing video games, and spending time with his new dog Higley… and his other dogs Cassie and Blue.

Sparrow Cash raised for Jack will help with ongoing medical expenses and everyday living expenses. Students at Mountain View High School will “earn” Sparrow Cash by completing a minimum of 256 hours of sponsored community service.
