Hayden is a curious and fun-loving little three-and-a-half-year-old boy. He is the youngest of four children in his happy family. Hayden was born on Valentine’s Day in 2014. He proved to be a gift of love on this very special day.
The first few months were typical newborn routines. Young Hayden was growing at a typical rate, eating well, bonding with his family, and thriving as a baby should. He seemed healthy and vibrant until mid-way through his first year. His parents started to question the lack of a few milestones typical to a six-month old, such as the ability to sit-up and use core muscles. He also refused to bare weight on his legs or hold a bottle.
Concerned for their child, Hayden’s parents contacted their pediatrician and started a journey of discovery. Many months passed and various tests were performed. Finally, when he was 18-months-old the results came back.
Hayden has a “global” diagnosis of cerebral palsy and oral phase dysphagia. The “global” aspect is the heartbreaking part of the diagnosis. This basically means that there really are no answers to why Hayden faces the challenges he will have with cerebral palsy. He does not fit the normal criteria that this condition typically includes. This means, it is much more challenging to place this sweet child into the types of therapy that will best fit his needs.
As of 2017, Hayden and his family continue to search out his health and condition. Various tests will be performed throughout his future in hopes of a clearer prognosis of what types of therapies and treatments he will need.
At this stage of the diagnosis process, Hayden is experiencing most of the struggles associated with cerebral palsy. He has extreme spastic movements, he scratches himself, has many nervous tics, cannot feed himself, is non-verbal, and requires a wheelchair.
Hayden is a sweet curious little boy who loves music, whistling noises, and fireworks. He enjoys camping with his family and playing with his siblings.
Hayden will be adopted as a Sparrow to Cascade Christian High School. Students at CCHS will work hard to raise money for Hayden through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
