Gabriel, or “Gabe” as his family and friends call him, is a 6-year-old little boy who loves the outdoors, snakes, and according to his father… he loves “anything that has a motor.”
Gabe was born on August 28, 2012 with a rare and very severe form of juvenile arthritis called, “Still’s Disease.” He has had to learn to adjust to being in pain most of the time. This disease affects his entire body and causes the joints throughout his body to swell, become stiff and causes contant pain. Gabe often cannot sleep at night due to the pain rushing through his bones and muscles.
Gabe also suffers with a life-threatening complication called macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). This condition occurs often alongside the type of arthritis Gabe has, and severely affects the heart, kidneys, and liver. When Gabe was only 19-months-old the condition nearly took his life.
He was also diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in 2014. This condition basically makes him severely medically fragile if he gets the flu or common cold.
Gabe has many medical requirements in his future. One of them includes the use of a specialized orthotic insert for his shoes and continued supplies for his g-tube.
These medical challenges require him to see doctors and specialists on a regular basis. These specialists include:
- Pediatric surgeons
- Hematology and oncology
Gabe will be adopted as a Sparrow to Cascade Christian High School. Students at CCHS will work hard to raise money for Gabe through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
