Gabe's Story:
(1.28.11) Gabriel was diagnosed in late August 2008 with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, in which there is an excessive thickening of the heart muscle. The cells of the heard are not formed properly and ventricular rhythm problems occur. This condition causes sudden death. Gabe has had a defibrillator implanted as a safe guard and takes atenelol to help control his heart rhythm. He will have x-rays taken every 6 months until his is 18 to be sure everything with his heart is working properly. Gabe has been so brave through all the medical procedures and the doctor visits he's had to go through. When all this started, he had 3 seizures within 5 days and was taken by Life Flight to Tacoma General in Seattle for immediate help. Gabe was a typical active boy before all this happened. Now he can't do any contact sports or cardio activity because he gets out of breath so easily. He does like camping, playing board games and video games, photography, hanging out with his friends, and playing with "Chico" his teacup Chihuahua. Sparrow cash raised for Gabe will help the family with the many medical bills that insurance will not cover, travel expenses and everyday living expenses.
