Faith's Story:
(12.01.10) In January of 2010, 8-year-old Faith was having fun playing and wrestling around with her friends and family, when she suddenly cried out in pain after being picked up by her arms. Doctors originally thought she had a fracture but over the course of many weeks, it became clear that it was not and that something was very wrong. Tests revealed a tumor in her shoulder and upper arm and on April 19th, 2010, Faith was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Faith had a port installed and began a 10-week chemotherapy regiment. Doctors recommended that Faith's arm be amputated, but a doctor in Seattle believed differently and performed surgery on August 11th, which saved her arm. During this surgery, the doctor removed the large tumor, which weighed 3 lbs and was 8 inches long and 4 inches wide. The doctor also had to remove Faith's shoulder, scapula, clavicle, and deltoid muscle and replaced much of Faith's upper arm bone with a steel rod wrapped in ceramic. Amazingly, the nerves were saved which enables Faith to still have complete feeling throughout her arm! Faith has only one more round of chemo, scheduled for the end of December. Through all of the many tests, transfusions, hospital stays, chemo treatments, surgeries, and more, Faith's charming personality , witty sense of humor, and passion for life has not been diminished. She has more than lived up to her nickname "The Warrior Princess." While it is unknown at this point how many or what kind of surgeries she will need in the future, Faith is determined to continue winning her battle with cancer. As she fights, this Warrior Princess is an inspiration to everyone who meets her and learns her story.
