Eleanor's Story:

Eleanor Ann P. was born on March 15, 2011. This little girl is full of spunk and hopes to one day be a singer or a doctor. She always strives to do her best, she never settles for “good enough,” and she loves to make other people happy.

In January 2018, Eleanor started complaining about stomach pains. There didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to her complaints, she just always had a mild stomach ache. Her personality seemed to become withdrawn and at school she was not her typical self. Eleanor’s concerned parents and pediatrician had many tests done that included blood work, abdominal x-ray’s, CT scan, spinal tap, lumbar punctures, and many other labs.

After many tests and weeks of investigation, Eleanor was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).

ALL is a cancer that causes blood cells to multiply too quickly, keeping these cells from maturing as they should, rendering them ineffective. In short, the blood in her body is unable to carry the oxygen that makes blood work the way it is created to work.

Eleanor has a medical journey ahead of her. She will be required to spend most of the next six to nine months receiving many forms of treatment. This treatment will include medications, chemotherapy, steroids, and further lumbar punctures.

When all is said and done, Eleanor is looking at a two-year journey to eliminate this cancer from her body.

This isn’t an easy illness to beat. It takes time- lots of time. The cancer itself travels through and impacts the entire body, and treatment has significant side effects. However, if any kid can push through such a challenge, it’s Eleanor Ann. The love and determination in her soul will help her overcome this, and anything else life throws at her.

Eleanor will be adopted as a Sparrow to Lost River JR/High School, Henley High School, and Henley Elementary. Students at these three schools will work hard to raise money for Eleanor through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
