Chadlee's Story:(11.28.11) Chris and Teresa waited along time for their little boy. Because of concerns about genetic defects in the family, they had an ultrasound every month and were told that their son was fine. But on June 24th, they discovered that that was not the case. Chadlee was born June 24 by C-section at a Madras hospital. When doctors realized he was born with a cleft palate and lip, he was immediately air lifted to the NICU in Bend. Because of his condition, he could not eat like most children and had to have a feeding tube put in to receive his nutrition. He stayed in the NICU for 1 ? weeks and in the Pediatric Unit for another week while his parents learned how to feed and take care of him. Chadlee's condition is very stressful and exhausting for his parents. He has to be fed sitting up using a special bottle. It takes almost an hour to feed him each time. He has to be monitored constantly as he has issues with reflux and can choke on anything that might come up. When this happens, his airway must be suctioned out to keep him from suffocating. He was able to have surgery a month ago to correct his cleft lip. He will not be able to have surgery on his palate until he is at least 8-12 months old. Right now, he is doing early intervention to help him with his milestones. He cannot do the things a baby his age would normally be able to do because of his reflux issues. Chadlee is a happy little boy with a beautiful smile. He likes to swing and spend time wrapped in his fuzzy blankets. But what he loves most is being held by his mom and dad. Sparrow Cash raised for Chadlee will help pay for ongoing medical expenses, gas for trips to Bend, and living expenses for the family.
