Arden & Naya's Story:
Arden and Naya are adorable sisters who have both been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is an inherited disease of the secretory glands. CF mainly affects the lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines, and sinuses. It can cause you to have serious lung and digestive problems. At this time there is no cure.
Arden is a 10 year old 5th grader at Nancy Ryles Elementary. She was diagnosed when she was 4 months old. She had not been growing properly, so the doctor had her tested for CF. Since then, she has been able to get the needed medications to gain weight and grow. This is the first sign of CF, but the impact on the lungs is what makes CF a life shortening disease. Naya was tested at birth and it was found that she also had CF.

Arden has been taught that there are positive as well as negative sides to her disease. Because she needs a high calorie diet, she gets to eat candy bars and other high calorie treats but also has to deal with daily therapies and medications . The most recent change for Arden is that she now has a feeding tube. This allows her to get the nutrition she needs during the night while she sleeps. This change has helped her develop physically.

Little Naya is 1 year old. Her health has not yet started to decline, and her family hopes to prevent this through continued therapies and medication. Naya does a great job taking her medicine, and sister Arden is a good example for other treatments. Both girls will face a battle against CF their entire lives.

Despite the challenges of dealing with CF on a daily basis, Arden, Naya and their parents enjoy playing at parks & watching movies together. Naya also loves dancing. . . she’s got moves like Jagger! Arden is positive, friendly, creative and courageous, especially in how she deals with her CF. Naya is cheerful, cuddly, and silly, and loves to be held by her Mom and Dad.

Arden and Naya’s family believe very strongly both in modern medicine and the power of prayer. Both of these beliefs have helped them to succeed in dealing with this disease. To the Southridge Family they would like to say “Thank You! Thank you for setting a wonderful example for Arden, Naya, and our family as a whole.”
