Laylanni's Story:Laylanni is a loving and kind five year old who loves playing Barbie House, swimming, LOL Dolls and watching YouTube videos. She also love playing with her cousins, going to the park and the zoo.
In June of 2017 Laylanni caught a cold that would not go away. Her mom took her to the doctor thinking she had a simple virus. Doctors took blood tests, did chest x-rays and finally by 10:00 that night, Laylanni’s family felt like their world stopped as they received devastating news. Doctors officially diagnosed her with ALL B-cell Leukemia.
Laylanni’s treatments started immediately. A whole series of tests were performed as well as an ultrasound of her heart. Doctors placed a picc line for fluids and later a port in her chest to help administer the chemotherapy.
Laylanni’s treatments started with weekly chemotherapy under sedation, which included chemotherapy via a spinal tap. She experiences multiple side effects as a result of the her treatment protocol, including back pain, walking problems, nausea, vomiting and eventually she lost her beautiful long hair.
Her chemotherapy treatments are now once a month and her risk for infection is high. Her counts have dropped so low that she has had to have multiple blood transfusions. In September, she got pneumonia and was hospitalized for two weeks. Doctors were concerned that the infection might put her into septic shock and monitored her closely.
In spite of all of this, Laylanni continues to be loving to everyone around her. Even though she is a little shy, she has not lost her spontaneous personality. Her favorite color is pink and she loves french fries and hash browns.
Laylanni will be adopted as a Sparrow to Liberty High School. Students will work hard to not only love and support her, but raise money for Laylanni through sponsored community service and fundraising.
