Carson's Story:Carson is almost three and up until July of 2017, he was healthy and happy. After weeks of continual pain and multiple trips to the doctor, Randall Children’s Hospital discovered what was wrong. Within two and a half hours they knew it was cancer.
On July 26th, Doctors discovered a tumor that wrapped completely around his entire abdomen that was inoperable due to its location against the vein of cava. He was admitted immediately and subjected to a multiple tests over the next week. Each test and each day brought more unsettling news. Another tumor was discovered on his esophagus. They began chemotherapy immediately to begin fighting the aggressive type of cancer. Doctors then knew Carson had Stage IV High Risk Neuroblastoma.
After 5 days of chemotherapy, Carson came home but was rushed back to the hospital due to labored breathing and unstable blood pressure. He was admitted to the ICU. More complications followed as he became neutropenic causing him to develop mucositis and pneumonia.
In August, Carson went through round two of chemotherapy and became neutropenic again but this time he didn’t get sick. In September, doctors were amazed as scans revealed the tumors had shrunk 75%. Because the cancer is in his bone marrow, skull and lymph nodes, Carson will need more chemotherapy and stem cell replacement to fight this.
Carson desperately needs our help. His family must keep up with all the costs of medical expenses not covered under insurance and to meet their basic needs.Despite all of these challenges, Carson or “Car Car”, loves horses, unicorns, music and singing. Since he lost his hair he has become fixated on all things with long hair, like My Little Pony, Disney Princesses, Frozen and Tangled.
His new favorite color is pink.
Carson will be adopted as a Sparrow to Parkrose Middle School. Students will work hard to raise money for Carson through sponsored community service and fundraising.
