Sara's Story:
Sara is a beautiful five years old, with an amazing smile and a loving personality. She loves to listen to music, do somersaults, go down slides and being in the water. She loves spending time outside with her family most, but inside she enjoys watching Barney and movies about elephants and monkeys. Her favorite times are spent with her sister, September and brother, Luke.

When Sara was 9 months old, she suddenly stopped eating and hadn’t yet learned to sit up. Her parents called the doctor who recognized that there was a problem. The family met with a therapist who found that Sara was doing the things a 3 month old should be doing, not a 9 month old. Sara met with a neurologist in an attempt to figure out what was causing these challenges.

The family spent months with several different doctors trying to unravel the mystery, none really giving the family any specific diagnosis nor any information on what had caused Sara’s illness. They do know that she has gross motor skill delay, developmental delays, and extreme muscle weakness caused by the only official part of the diagnosis, Cerebral Palsy. Sara has a feeding tube to help her get the nutrition she needs.

Recently, Sara has begun having seizures, several each day. Doctors and specialists recommended that Sara be tested for Rhett Syndrome. After considerable expense to the family, the tests came back negative.

Sara’s new neurologist would like to have her tested for several other syndromes but the costs to the family are more than they can afford at this time.

Sparrow Cash raised for Sara would help to pay for these tests, as well as much needed hippotherapy to improve her core strength. Funds may also be used for an improved feeding system to help Sara receive the nutrition she needs as she grows.
