Andrew's Story:Andrew is a very kind, happy, and engaging 11-year-old boy who loves video games, building Legos, and spending time on YouTube. Judging from Andrew’s happy nature and friendly personality, you might never think that he lives with a severe medical condition.
Andrew suffers from severe epilepsy, which up to this point has been unresponsive to treatment. Andrew endures several severe seizures a day. These seizures often last one to two minutes, sometimes come in “clusters,” and result in physical exhaustion and mental confusion. His seizures have become so severe that Andrew now uses a wheelchair most of the time because he is unable to walk extended distances.
Andrew must take five different medications and his condition has made it impossible to attend school for the past two years. As a result, Andrew is very isolated, both physically and socially.
In addition to having epilepsy, Andrew also experiences autism, which he was diagnosed with at 2-years-old.
In spite of his difficulties, Andrew enjoys his life and has a very positive outlook. He loves people and his kind nature draws people near. The name “Andrew” means “strong,” and this young boy truly lives up to his name.
Andrew will be adopted as a Sparrow to Quatama Elementary School, in Hillsboro, OR. Quatama students will work hard to raise money for Andrew through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
Funds raised by students will be used to help offset the cost of escalating medical bills and other general needs.
