Read Kimberly's Story

  • Kimberly, or “Kimis,” is a sweet 5-year-old little girl who is very social, loves her older brother, and always has a smile on her face.
  • When Kimis was about 2 months old, she became very ill and was hospitalized. During her stay she experienced several seizures. After running many tests, doctors diagnosed Kimis with a condition called atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.
  • This condition is an extremely rare blood disease that causes low platelets and injury to her kidneys.
  • In 2020, when she was just 2 months old, doctors placed Kimis in an induced coma for 5 days and administered several blood transfusions. She was also placed on dialysis for 23 days.
  • When Kimis was a year and a half old she battled sepsis. This was extremely scary and almost took her life. During that battle She experienced extremely low levels of oxygen to her brain, and in return that caused some long-term brain damage.
  • Kimis will continue to visit with specialists her entire life. She is currently nonverbal and is enrolled in various types of therapies and takes daily seizure medication.
  • Although Kimis has some scary medical hurdles to face, she and her family never let that stop her from enjoying life.
  • Kimis will be adopted as a Sparrow to St. Mary’s School. St. Mary’s students will work hard to earn money for Kimis through sponsored community service.
