Deisy is an adorable and sweet 3-year-old little girl who loves Minnie Mouse and adventuring outside. She loves to snuggle with her family, and she always has a happy smile.
Deisy was born prematurely at 8 months gestation, weighing only 5 pounds. When she was 10 months old, she had a scary incident that alarmed her mother to take her to the hospital.
Doctors did several tests and believed she was experiencing seizures, but soon ruled that out. However, her vitals were still alarming, so Deisy was immediately referred to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
Once Deisy was in Portland, doctors placed her on medication that finally normalized her vitals. After several days, Deisy and her family were sent home.
That experience became the new normal for Deisy and her family. Doctors have since done various genetic tests and continue to explore medical diagnoses. Currently, it is determined that Deisy has hypotonia (low muscle tone), dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions), and developmental delays. She is nonverbal and relies fully on her parents and medical team.
Currently, Deisy is enrolled in Early Intervention and receives many therapies. There are many unknowns at this point due to her being so young still, but she will continue to travel to Portland to receive medical treatment and testing.
Deisy has faced some challenging hurdles already, but this experience has shown her family what a fighter she is. Her mother describes her as the happiest little girl she’s ever known. Deisy and her family hope her story will inspire you to never give up when life gets hard.
Deisy will be adopted as the Sparrow to St. Mary’s School. St. Mary’s students will work hard to earn money for Deisy through sponsored community service.
