Jesse's Story:(10.19.11) Jesse is a bright, rambunctious 4 year old with lots of energy and an infectious smile. Jesse's family was just moving to Bend in October 2010 when they noticed that Jesse seemed a little more tired then usual. His parents assumed that the move had caused him to be overtired. Jesse began complaining of not feeling well and had a very high fever. When he began fainting, he was taken immediately to the doctor. Jesse was referred to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. After performing tests at Doernbecher, the diagnoses came: Acute Myloid Leukemia. This type of cancer in a child Jesse's age is very rare and doctors began treatment immediately. Jesse spent the next 6 weeks in the hospital enduring his first round of chemo as well a numerous other procedures. He would spend the next several months of his life receiving 4 more rounds of chemo, spending six to eight weeks in the hospital for each round. The last round ended with 46 days in isolation and the family was finally able to return home by the end of April 2011. Though he is currently done with his treatment and in remission, he continues to travel to Portland and see his physicians every six weeks. His prognosis is good though the doctors are currently monitoring some things that may be of concern. Sparrow Cash raised for Jesse would help with medical expenses and transportation and lodging costs when in Portland.
