Amari's Story:
Amari is a 9-year-old little girl who loves music and dressing up. She has been described as “the girl who lights up the room.”At 3-weeks-old, Amari contracted meningitis, and again at 3-months-old.
When Amari was 5 months old, she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus (having excess fluid around the brain).
These conditions caused cysts that had to be surgically removed to install a shunt that would drain the excess fluid.
Amari has had close to 10 major surgeries, including back, hips, brain, VP shunt, a feeding tube, and a tracheotomy.
Amari is nonverbal but finds many ways to communicate and connect with others. She loves interacting with people and making them laugh.
Despite all the medical challenges, Amari is a sweet and fun little girl who enjoys life and always has a smile on her face.
Amari will continue to need medical support throughout her entire life.
Amari will be adopted as a Sparrow to St. Mary’s School. St. Mary’s Students will work hard to raise money for Amari through sponsored community service.
