Victor's Story:
Hey! My name is Victor Santillan and I am a sophomore here at Sunset. In October, I was riding my bike to school when a car hit me going 40 mph while I was crossing the on-ramp to highway 26. I flew 40 feet and landed on the asphalt. The witnesses thought I was dead. I was told later at the hospital that I had blacked out and cracked my skull in two places. I had to have stitches on my right leg as well on the right side of my head just above my eye. I was in the hospital for three days after my accident to recover. I now suffer from short-term memory lose; migraines when I stand up and slightly impaired vision. Luckily for me I have a loving and strong support system at home and they are willing to help me recover to my full potential.
The struggle that my family now faces is paying for all my medical bills. Since I have been in and out of the hospital and chiropractor, they bills have begun to add up and my family can’t afford to pay them off.
Aside from all the hardships I’ve experienced, I am a funny, outgoing, kind and active teenager. I love playing dodge ball, video games and spending time with my friends when I can. With the help of The Sparrow Club, I hope to use my negative experience to encourage teens to wear their helmets. With the help of Sunset and The Sparrow Club, I can help out the community and my family. Thank you Sunset!
