Tyler's Story:
(4/3/07) Fourteen year-old Tyler is an accomplished snowboarder and athlete. On Sunday, April 1, 2007, Tyler was seriously injured and paralyzed in a snowboarding accident while practicing for a national competition near Lake Tahoe. Tyler Eklund broke the C-3 vertebra in his neck during a practice run for the USA Snowboard Association National Championships at North Star Resort, in California. Tyler underwent surgery immediately, but is currently paralyzed from the neck down and not able to breathe on his own. Doctors will know more during the rest of the month as his body begins to recover from the surgery and the swelling is decreased. Always active, Tyler loves many different sports including wakeboarding, basketball, motorcycles, and snowboarding. He also enjoys hunting with his dad. Sparrow cash raised for Tyler will help pay the medical costs of hospital bills, surgery and possibly a wheelchair.
