Mishele's Story:
(1/19/10) A little over one year ago, Mishele's parents received devastating news that their little girl had a heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy. The disease, caused by a virus, results in an enlarged heart, which can't pump properly. Mishele was immediately rushed to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, where doctors gave her a 50-50 chance of survival, warning that she might not make it through the night. Little Mishele proved to be a fighter, as she returned home after over two weeks in the hospital, 10 days of which were spent in the ICU. Since then, Mishele has been on a regimen of medications and lives with a weakened immune system. While she is currently doing well, the possibility of a future heart transplant has not been ruled out. Even with all she has been through, 6-year-old Mishele isn't letting her medical situation keep her from living life. She is a determined, confident girl who is full of life. She loves her family, Disney princesses, and has fun playing dress up with clothes and makeup.
