MaKenzi's Story:
(10.15.10) Makenzi is a beautiful 10 month old little girl with an uncertain future. When she was 2 months old, her mother found that she was dropping weight instead of gaining it the way a child of that age should. Doctors weren't concerned at the time, but when Makenzi reached three months old and was still only 7 lbs., they began to look a little deeper. Eventually a doctor decided that further tests needed to be done and sent Makenzi and her mother to the hospital. She was immediately sent in for an MRI and a diagnosis was given Colpocephaly. This is a congenital malformation of the brain that causes developmental delay, seizure disorder and a feeding disorder. Makenzi immediately had a feeding tube installed to help her get the nutrition she needed. Over the past several months, Makenzi has been hospitalized many times due to complications of her illness. She has seen numerous physicians, but none have been able to offer any kind of prognosis. Right now, Makenzi receives physical, occupational, speech and vision therapy in hopes of making sure that her future is a bright one. Sparrow money raised would help with the ongoing medical expenses for Makenzi as well as transportation from Prineville to Bend for her doctors visits at least once a week.
