Alexandrea's Story:
(10.14.10) Little Alexandrea came into this world seven weeks early and then spent the first six weeks of her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). During this time, doctors diagnosed Alexandrea as "failure to thrive," as she was not meeting expected standards of growth. In addition, x-rays revealed that Alexandra had not only an enlarged heart, but also a hole in her heart (atrial septal defect) that required surgery to repair. Alexandrea underwent this surgery in the first week of August of 2010. The surgery was a success, however, Alexandrea and her family have to travel to Portland often to visit cardiologists, as it is unknown at this point whether or not she will need additional surgeries in the future. Money raised for Alexandrea will help offset the costs of these travel expenses in addition to helping offset the cost of medications and food for her specialized diet. Alexandrea has a contagious smile, which she uses to charm people wherever she goes and is learning sign language to help her communicate. She loves people, loves swings, and really loves her dog "Bella."
