Zach's Story:In 2004, Zachary and his twin Joshua were born prematurely at 28 weeks. There were complications before both babies were born. Sadly, Joshua only lived two weeks. Zachary was in the hospital 52 days and was diagnosed with quadriparetic – spastic cerebral palsy and a rare seizure disorder called Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome.
Zach is now 12 years old and is wheelchair bound and requires tube feedings and total assistance with all his daily care. The type of seizure disorder he has can cause more brain damage as he gets older. He is non-verbal. As he gets older it has become more and more difficult to lift him in and out of his bed to his wheelchair or any other location.
Zach attends school and loves being there. He also enjoys being outdoors and likes when his family or friends take him for walks in his stroller chair.
When he’s at home he loves the sound of his family, especially his younger brothers laughing and playing. The sound of his mom and dad singing to him makes him very happy. He is normally content despite all his challenges.
Sparrow Cash raised for Zachary will help with ongoing medical expenses, keeping their older wheelchair van maintained, and everyday living expenses. Students at Mountain View High School will “earn” Sparrow Cash by completing a minimum of 256 hours of sponsored community service.
