Riley's Story:Five year old Riley had a rough beginning. She was born not breathing and had to be resuscitated. After that rough beginning however, she appeared to progress like a normal little girl. Around the age of 2, she began having problems with her bowels. She was diagnosed with a condition called Mega colon. She began treatment for her condition and must travel to Portland every two months to see a specialist there.
Riley has always had an issue with her neck. She has large lump on the side that doctors have dismissed many times over the years. As she got older, it would come and go with illness. Now, it comes and goes when it wants to. It is painful for Riley but doctors don't want to do surgery at this time.
While getting Riley checked out for this condition, her dad, Doug, also pointed out to doctors that Riley was walking a little funny and her speech seemed to be delayed. She was referred to a specialist in Bend. Within 20 minutes, Doug received the diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Riley immediately began receiving occupational, speech and physical therapy in Redmond. She was recently fitted for AFO's (ankle foot orthotics) that will help her with her ability to walk.
Riley's prognosis right now is unclear though her father is hopeful that with therapy, her condition will improve. In the meantime, Riley enjoys being a little girl. She loves monkeys, playing with cars, talking walks to the park and spending time with her daddy. Sparrow cash you raise for Riley will help to cover ongoing therapy expenses as well as medical and everyday living expenses.
