Owen's Story:When Owen was 23 days old, he became ill with Meningitis. He spent 19 days in the hospital – 7 of which were life threatening. He had massive brain bleeds and swelling, which led to Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus. He had brain surgery at one year old to place a shunt in his skull to drain fluid away from his brain, because his body could no longer do it for itself.
Owen likes simple pleasures. He loves snuggling and holding hands. He enjoys being outside, playing in the grass, or in the sand and rocks. He and his brother, Max, like to wrestle and watch movies together. He loves slap-stick comedy and any type of physical humor cracks him up.
Owen loves to go fast – down slides, being pushed at a run in his stroller, pulled in a wagon, or down a hill in a sled. He’s a real speed demon!
Owen is always happy and smiling. His mother believes that it’s because he’s experienced the opposite, and has a deeper insight on life than most of us. He is a people person, and really likes people watching.
Even though Owen can’t talk yet, he knows what you’re saying to him. So, if you see him in passing, say “Hi!” and he’ll reward you with one of his brilliantly happy smiles.
