Krystal's Story:(4/4/08) Krystal Searcy is an outgoing 10 year old little girl who has been a real fighter ever since her diagnosis of Aplastic Anemia on December 22, 2007. Aplastic Anemia means that her bone marrow has stopped producing blood cells. About a week before she was sent to Doernbecher's by her doctor her mom noticed bruising all over her arms and legs. She was bruising very easily. Krystal had three to five hospital stays right away after her diagnosis; mostly because she had allergic reactions to the medications which caused many health problems for her. Once they figured out what she was allergic to they were able to begin treating her condition. Unfortunately she has only been out of the hospital eight days since the beginning of this year. At this point they are just taking one day at a time because they are not sure if she will end up needing a bone marrow transplant or not. She is at Doernbecher's now and her mom Pam doesn't know when she will be well enough to come back to Bend. Krystal likes hanging out with her friends and misses them very much. She really enjoys school. She likes the outdoors and enjoys camping and fishing with her family. She loves her dog Brutus who is usually by her side. Sparrow cash raised for Krystal will help pay for trips to Doernbecher's hospital in Portland (gas, food, and lodging), prescription medications, as well as living expenses while her mom has to take time off from work to care for her needs.
