Jack's Story:Jack is a bright, energetic 4 year old little boy who loves to hang out with his big brother Josh (17), and his mom and dad, Amy and Ryan. But it hasn't always been that way. Before Jack was born, doctors discovered a problem. An ultrasound photo showed that there was fluid in his abdomen. Though many tests were done, the doctors found nothing conclusive. Jack was then born 9 weeks early and flew immediately to Portland. No one was sure how sick he would be so he spent 6 weeks in the NICU at Legacy Emmanuel. Tests found that he had a cyst on the right side of his head but, again, doctors weren't sure what would happen. Jack was released from the hospital at 6 weeks with orders to return to Portland every 4 months for further testing. At 6 months old, Jack was finally diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. He had difficulty with his core muscles making it difficult to hold his head up, as well as to sit and crawl. After his diagnosis, Jack began therapy as an early intervention to help him strengthen his legs and core muscles. He loves to ride horses at Healing Reins and does his hippo therapy there once a week. He also does physical therapy in a pool every other week, and occupational therapy ever other week. Right now, Jack is working hard at improving his core muscles so that maybe, one day, he can walk without the assistance of braces and a walker. For now, Jack enjoys playing with his trucks, drawing, and reading books. He also likes to fix things and especially enjoys his time in the pool. Sparrow cash raised for this family will go towards a special 18 month treatment that will hopefully improve Jack's ability to walk and to do so without a walker.
