In early March of 2014, little Elijah had a bump on his foot. He told his parents, Christopher and Christina, that he had dropped a toy on it. Having three other boys, it seemed like a logical excuse, but the size of the bump was much too big to be the affect of a toy.
Elijah’s mom decided to take him to get an x-ray. There the x-ray revealed an abnormality on the bone. Two weeks later, he was referred to an oncologist. The bump was not because Elijah had dropped a toy on it, he had a tumor on his foot. On March 31st, 2014 Elijah was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer that affects mainly children and adolescents.
Elijah had an initial round of Chemotherapy lasting over 3 months to attack the cancer then had a partial foot amputation to remove bones touching the cancer. He is now in post surgery Chemotherapy phase that will last until the end of March, in hopes of killing all the cancer cells. According to his mom, his best days feel like he has really bad flu.
Although Elijah’s life has been a difficult one, he is a fighter and is a walking miracle. He is a very happy little boy who loves his brothers. When Elijah grows up he wants to be a combination of Spiderman, Wolverine and a police officer.
Elijah will be adopted as a Sparrow to Glencoe High School in Hillsboro. Students will work hard to raise money for Elijah through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
