When Danni started getting sick in August 2014, her family, along with her doctor thought it was bronchitis, most likely from all of the wildfire smoke that summer. However, Danni and her family soon learned the real reason why Danni’s was having very bad respiratory problems.
Danni was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October of 2014. Danni was also diagnosed with a tumor in her sternum, which had grown so large that it was causing her chest to be barrel shaped. It was also putting tremendous pressure on Danni’s heart and lungs, preventing her from laying down flat and causing her to have to sleep propped up in bed.
Danni underwent surgery to drain fluid from her heart and lungs and in December of 2014, had surgery to install a port to start her lengthy chemotherapy treatment, which she received once a week for nearly a year.
Danni, who turned four years old in September of 2015, is now in the maintenance phase of her treatment, which involves oral chemotherapy, once a month IV chemotherapy, along with a monthly spinal tap. This phase of treatment is scheduled to end in January 2017.
Despite her difficult battle with cancer, Danni continues to inspire others with her warm smile and incredible heart.
Danni is a “girly-girl” who loves to dress up and wear makeup. She also loves baby animals and the outdoors.
She is the “princess” of the family…the youngest of five girls, and her sisters adore her.
Danni will be adopted as a Sparrow to North Medford High School. Students at NMHS will work hard to raise money for Danni through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
