Connor's Story:

The word that comes to mind when Connor’s mom describes Connor is fighter. When Sherae, Connor’s mom, was 20 weeks pregnant, she went to the doctors to find out what the sex of the baby would be. What her and her husband, Nick, found out was a little more than just the sex of the baby. Connor was diagnosed with Gastroschisis, a birth defect that causes the intestines to be on the outside of the abdomen.

Since his birth less than a month ago, Connor has spent every day in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield and has already had one procedure to place the intestines back inside of his abdomen. After his first surgery, it was determined that the hole in his abdomen was too small. This caused the intestines to not work how they should and after an x-ray, it was determined that another surgery would have to take place.

Connor and his parents are now waiting another four, long, weeks to have surgery to have a portion of his intestines cut out to, hopefully, reduce the restriction of the intestines, so they will work properly.

Although Connor’s life has been a tough one already, he is a feisty little baby boy who, truly, is a fighter. He loves all people and their voices that help keep him calm.

Connor will be adopted as a Sparrow. Students will work hard to raise money for Connor through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
