Sweet Chloe is a beautiful, talkative, and very outgoing 5-year-old girl who, for many years, has been active in gymnastics, soccer, and dance. This past summer, Chloe’s mother suspected that something might be wrong when it was noticed that Chloe started experiencing periods of time where different parts of her body would hurt for days on end. During these times, Chloe would not walk or play.
In December 2012, an emergency room visit, followed by a bone marrow test revealed devastating news- Chloe had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), otherwise known as cancer of the white blood cells.
Since Chloe’s diagnosis in December, she has had seven spinal taps, had a port installed in her chest (in January), and has begun a two-and-a-half year protocol, part of which involves receiving chemotherapy treatment every ten days until the early July 2013.
Although treatment makes her tired and makes her stomach upset, it doesn’t seem to have an ill effect on Chloe’s upbeat, humorous, and outgoing demeanor. In addition, she is very intelligent and mature for her age and is able to tell others in detail all about her current condition and treatment.
Chloe still loves to dance when she can and absolutely loves playing with and training her dog, “Scooper.”
Chloe will soon be adopted as a Sparrow to South Middle School in Grants Pass, where students will undoubtedly be drawn to her amazing personality and sweet nature, and impacted at the heart level by her story.
Students will work hard for Chloe by completing sponsored community service and fundraising projects, in order to raise money for her and her family to help offset the cost of weekly doctor visits, insurance co-pays, and various medical bills. Funds raised will also help with general living expenses as needs arise.
