Braydon is a very bright and cheerful young man despite all that he has experienced in his lifetime. When he was 7 years old, he spent a lot of time in severe pain and was unable to eat. After a year of testing he was diagnosed with Illocecal Chrohn’s Disease.
This illness if one of the most severe forms of Chrohn’s Disease and is usually diagnosed in adults age 18-35. To find it in a child is very rare. Chrohn’s disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to attack its digestive system. This condition causes food to move through the body so fast, it cannot absorb anything. For this reason, Braydon has a failure to thrive and spends much of his time connected to a feeding tube giving him nutrition.
Braydon has spent the last two years being tutored at home because of the severity of his illness. He is unable to attend school. He has chronic inflammation that makes it difficult to eat and causes large portions of scar tissue to form. He has undergone one surgery to remove part of his colon and will likely have to have additional surgeries. He also gets ulcers anywhere throughout his digestive system, including his esophagus, making it difficult to swallow anything.
Braydon receives all of his nutrition through a feeding tube. He receives IV therapy every eight weeks to administer a drug similar to chemo that works to help lessen the effects of his disease. He does not have a healthy immune system and is often weak making it difficult for him to do what healthy kids do. Still, he smiles and is happy. He enjoys his time with his family and his special little dog, Neiko. Braydon hopes to return to school soon. He loves science and art classes and enjoys riding bikes and hanging with his friends and family.
