Blossom's Story:(2.9.11) Little Blossom Joy was born on August 3, 2010, making Matt & Shannon DePuglia happy parents for the very first time. One day, when Blossom was 4-months-old, Shannon noticed that Blossom's tummy felt very hard on the left side. This didn't seem right so Blossom went in to see her pediatrician. Tests were done which revealed that Blossom had a large cancerous tumor growing on her kidney, known as a Wilms tumor. Blossom was immediately scheduled for emergency surgery and on December 13, 2010, doctors removed the very large tumor, which weighed 1.5 pounds. Along with the tumor, doctors had to remove Blossom's kidney as well as several lymph nodes in the surrounding area. Since the surgery, Blossom has started a 6-month chemotherapy treatment plan that requires her and her parents to travel to Portland once a week for now, eventually decreasing to once every three weeks. Even though she is in the midst of fighting cancer, Blossom is a happy, smiley baby who loves to play, reach, and role. She truly brings joy to those that have her in their lives. Money raised through the Sparrow Club at North Valley High School will be used to help pay medical and travel expenses and also help with general living expenses as needs arise.
