Clubs

We use the term "Sparrow Club" loosley--because most often it refers to an entire school or campus that unites to do a Sparrow Project--rather than a small exclusive group of kids.

The Sparrow Clubs organization works with college through elementary level schools and "sets the stage" for students to rally and unite behind the cause of adopting a qualified Sparrow through our organization for a semester or entire school year.

Sometimes schools will adopt a known classmate in medical crisis as their sparrow project--but often it is a local child referred by our hospital connections. In a Sparrow Project, students do community service and fundraising activities to raise emotional, spiritual and financial support for their child and family in need.  Through Sparrow Clubs, when one child is helped entire schools and communities are helped--and youth culture is changed.

A Sparrow Project can be done as a community service activity for any other existing school club (such as Key Club, BETA Club, National Honor Society, etc.). However, many schools will sanction their own school "Sparrow Club". They elect officers, recruit members and set up an account with their Associated Student Body office / Activities Director if you plan to fundraise.  These groups form the project leadership team for each school year's new Sparrow Project.  Here are some suggested steps to starting a Sparrow Club:

  • Step 1:    Appoint 3 or 4 committed studentsthat would be interested in joining as officers of the club. Recruit an active teacher or parent to be the official club advisor. Seek students that are dependable and reliable as they will be the cornerstones of the club for the first year.
  • Step 2:   Convene the newly appointed officers to write and vote in by-laws and a mission statement. Stay in contact with top administrators at this point.
  • Step 3:   Begin marketing the new club to the entire student body. Post flyers, write a newsletter, and hold the first meeting open to the student body. Conduct this meeting as an information session.
  • Step 4:   Sign up new members and begin holding regular club meetings.
  • Step 5:   Register your club with the Sparrow Clubs organization.
  • Step 6:  Plan your Sparrow Project ...
