Sparrow Clubs USA National Board of Directors
President: Dr. Nancy Wilson is a retired school administrator who lives in Ellensburg, Washington. She formerly worked as an elementary principal in the Lake Washington School District and as co-principal of St. Catherine School in Seattle. She has been a board member since 2001.
Vice President and Executive Director: Steve Mezich is one of Sparrow’s founding board members and served as Board president for ten years. He was the principal at Kamiakin Junior High when his students rallied to save Michael Leeland's life. Steve is currently an elementary principal in Sammamish, Washington.
Vice President and Treasurer: Joe Rygg is vice president for commercial real estate at Bank Of The Cascades in Bend, Oregon. Joe has served both as president of the Central Oregon Regional Advisory Board for Sparrow Clubs and as assistant to the Executive Director, Steve Mezich. Joe joined the Board of Directors in 2010.
Secretary: Bill Buchanan is a practicing attorney with Karnopp Peterson LLC in Bend, where he specializes in litigating and mediating civil matters, including business and property cases. Bill's interest in Sparrow Clubs grew from his knowledge of these clubs in the local schools his children attend. He joined the Board of Directors in 2010.
Dr. Kristine Swiderek is a scientist who specializes in medical research into the causes of cancer. She has participated in the Luke Mezich Memorial Team Roping, a benefit for Sparrow Clubs, since its inception in 1996, She joined the Board of Directors in 2010.
Erin Livingston is the activity coordinator and leadership teacher at Aloha High School in Beaverton, Oregon. Erin has advised the Sparrow Club at Aloha for four years, assisting families with the support of their sponsor, Safeway Foundation. Erin joined the Board of Directors in 2010.
Dr. Tom Halverson is a professor at the University of Washington, specializing in organizational leadership, structures, and systems. He currently directs graduate students who are preparing for positions in school administration and educational policy. Tom joined the Board in 2008 and served as President in 2009-2010.
